Which provider should I contact first?¶

There is no universal order. Start with the provider most likely to hold the record that answers the immediate question, while protecting data at greatest risk of loss.

Let the question set the order¶

If the priority is preserving a disappearing page, the platform or host may come first. To identify the domain customer, the registrar or reseller is more relevant. For a payment beneficiary, start with the payment service. A CDN result may need an intermediary enquiry before the origin host can even be identified.

Think of it as tracing a parcel: the first useful call depends on whether you need the sender, payment, warehouse or last known location.

Before contacting anyone, preserve the visible website and record exact identifiers and times. Map the registrar, DNS provider, platform, host, intermediary, payments and linked accounts sufficiently to avoid directing the request to the wrong organisation.

Prioritise short-lived material such as access logs, dynamic assignments, security events, platform activity and volatile content. A preservation step may be needed before the full disclosure route is complete.

Use each response to refine the chain. A cloud provider may identify a reseller; a registrar may identify a privacy service; a CDN may identify the origin configuration.
