How do I preserve interactive or personalised website content?¶

Record the conditions and sequence that caused the content to appear. A personalised result may not be reproducible from the URL alone.

Capture the journey, not just the final screen¶

Note the account and sign-in state, device, browser, date, time, time zone, language, location and any search terms or selections. Record each action needed to reveal the content, including scrolling, opening menus, submitting a query or moving through a conversation.

A screen recording can preserve sequence, while still screenshots and copied identifiers provide clearer fixed references. Keep complete URLs, item IDs, message IDs, download names and confirmation references.

Personalisation works like a receptionist giving different information according to who asks and what they have already said. Another user may legitimately see something different.

Cookies, prior activity, experiments, account permissions and automated recommendations can affect the display. Preserve only what is necessary and handle session tokens or personal data securely.

Provider records may independently explain the event through account activity, messages, transaction history, recommendation logs or content identifiers. They can be important where the displayed sequence may later change.
