WDH-081 Websites, Domains & Internet Infrastructure
Can I prove somebody visited a website?¶
You may prove that a device, account or system contacted a website. Proving that a particular person deliberately visited and viewed it usually requires more context.
Evidence to consider¶
- server and network records;
- browser history;
- typed URLs or searches;
- page-specific artefacts;
- saved credentials;
- downloads or interaction;
- device use at the relevant time.
Interpret the result carefully¶
Technical records may identify a service, account, device or request rather than the person responsible. Preserve exact dates, times and time zones, and test shared access, automation, compromise and changing infrastructure where relevant.
Key takeaway
Separate connection, page request, rendering, interaction and personal attribution into distinct evidential steps.
